Students at St. Philomena Catholic Elementary School in Fort Erie have done what many will only hope to do – they have recorded their own CD.
Members of St. Philomena’s choir and band recorded the four-song CD at the school on March 8, assisted by Toronto-based sound engineer Rob Hanson. Two songs focus on the importance of good hand hygiene, a third is about preventing bullying and the fourth is the school’s Peace Pledge performed with a touch of rock and rap.
Teacher Chad Faner wrote many of the lyrics to the songs, and revised them based on input from students. Once the final versions of the songs were complete, the band began rehearsing the music and students began learning the lyrics.
When sound engineer Rob Hanson travelled to Niagara, he brought with him a mobile recording studio – a professional microphone and a Mac computer – and recorded the songs in the library.
Mr. Faner said the writing and recording process was “incredible” for the students, who rehearsed very hard to ensure they were ready for their studio debut.
